What is the tugging feeling between sternum and belly on?

Over a year ago while reaching for something high in cabinet I felt a sharp intense pain below my right rib cage radiating from my sternum, xiphoid process actually. The pain subsided after a little while but later that day i was poking around below my sternum and rib cage and felt something odd. Felt like a section of small intestine a few inches long. Since then Ive had intermittent discomfort in that area, Inflamed xiphoid and a tugging sensation between belly on and sternum. Think it could be a hernia? What kind? Hiatal or epigastric? What could it be?
