First time cruiser need help!!?

My husband and I are going on our first cruise in April of this year. We are looking to know if there are any suggestions, concerns, ideas? On how we can make the getaway most memorable. Is there anything I need to know as far as payments, excursions etc.. Any help will be appreciated..
